Democrats in battleground Wisconsin controlled both chambers of the state legislature as recently as 2009, and were represented federally by two Democratic senators and a majority-Democratic congressional delegation.
But after winning the governorship and majorities in the state legislature in 2010, Wisconsin Republicans drew new legislative maps with one goal in mind: to ensure they’d never lose power again.
In WISCONSIN…
Republican legislators gerrymandered Wisconsin’s maps so egregiously that in 2018, when Democratic candidates for Assembly won 54% of the total popular vote, they walked away with just 36 of 99 seats in the chamber.
Unearthed documents showed Republicans scheming to pick their own voters.

They gutted $900 million from Wisconsin’s K-12 budget, the largest per-student cuts to K-12 education in the nation.
They rejected more than $1 billion in federal dollars to expand Medicaid in Wisconsin, cover 83,000 more Wisconsinites, and save the state $324 million—a move that at least 70% of Wisconsinites support.
They forced an in-person election in the middle of COVID-19.
